Share your opinions in Vanderbilt Staff Community Survey

Take the survey from Nov. 4-17

Your opinion counts! The Vanderbilt Staff Community Survey is a confidential way to share your opinions on our organization’s strategy and mission, communication, job satisfaction, pay, benefits and training and development and more.

On Monday, Nov. 4, staff will receive an email from Avatar Solutions, a Chicago-based company that conducts opinion surveys for more than 500 organizations. The email from will have  “Your unique link for the Vanderbilt Staff Community Survey” in the subject line and will include a link to the survey.

We encourage staff to complete the online-only, confidential survey by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.

About the Survey

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. Questions cover:

  • Vanderbilt’s strategy and mission
  • Communication within the organization
  • Overall job satisfaction
  • Pay and benefits
  • Training and development
  • Current challenges

Please know that all responses are anonymous. We chose an outside vendor to conduct the survey so you can give honest feedback about your manager or supervisor as well as answer new questions about how Vanderbilt is handling current challenges.

Eligible staff (part-time and full-time employees as of Oct. 4) will receive a unique code in the email from the vendor. Please do not share your code because each code can only be used once. For employees without Internet access, we will offer labs with computers and staff assistance.

While this survey is staff only, faculty can expect a survey next year that is more relevant to their academic, scholarly and clinical endeavors.

Pam Brown, director of the Human Resources Organizational Effectiveness Team, said:  “We have had high participation in the past and are aiming for 75 percent this year. A large participation rate means the results provide an accurate picture of our strengths and areas of concern.”

In areas where the survey results suggest room for improvement or more focus, supervisors and the work group will create an action plan together for resolving the concern.

“The Staff Community Survey is just the beginning of the discussion,” Brown said. “It’s an opportunity to talk about what really matters and to be able to sit down and talk with your group about issues, acknowledging strengths and addressing concerns.”
