Hillsboro High School students gain an international perspective from the Hubert H. Humphrey fellows

On Sept. 30, students and teachers at Hillsboro High School will have the opportunity to mingle with educational leaders from around the world with a visit from Vanderbilt University’s Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, part of the Fulbright Exchange Program, brings accomplished mid-career professionals from developing nations and emerging democracies to the United States for an academic year to study, gain related professional experience and foster cultural exchange. This is the second year that Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of education and human development has hosted Humphrey Fellows. This year’s class hails from Bahrain, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, Pakistan, Palestinian National Authority and the Philippines.

In an effort to connect with their surrounding community, the fellows have organized a visit to Hillsboro High School to learn about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, while fostering cultural exchange with the teachers and students.  The IB program at Hillsboro High School is designed to promote international understanding, preparing high school students to feel comfortable in navigating the global community in which they live.

The Humphrey Fellows program is administered by the Institute of International Education with primary sponsorship from the U.S. Department of State.

The event will take place at Hillsboro High School (3812 Hillsboro Pike Nashville, TN 37215-2665) on Thursday September 30th from 7:30 am -1:00pm.
