School choice experts from across the nation will convene at Vanderbilt University Oct. 25-27 to discuss the latest research surrounding high-profile education issues such as charter schools, magnet schools, vouchers, student achievement, teacher qualifications, funding and more.
The conference, “School Choice and School Improvement: Research in State, District and Community Contexts,” is being hosted by the National Center on School Choice at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of education and human development. The program will feature keynote speeches by Paul Vallas, superintendent of the Recovery School District of Louisiana, where he was brought in to turn around underperforming schools after Hurricane Katrina, and Henry Levin, professor of economics and education at Columbia University’s Teachers College and director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education.

A post-conference online chat hosted by Education Week to discuss research presented at the event will be held at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Panelists will be Kristie J. R. Phillips, Brigham Young University; David Figlio, Northwestern University; and Helen F. Ladd, Duke University; with Marisa Cannata of Vanderbilt moderating.
