Vanderbilt Peabody faculty member Matthew Springer has been appointed by Assistant Secretary of the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education Kerri Briggs to a new U.S. Department of Education advisory committee on teacher and principal performance pay programs.
Springer is a research assistant professor in the Vanderbilt Peabody Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations and director of the National Center on Performance Incentives at Vanderbilt University. The center, led by Executive Director James Guthrie, is a $10 million project funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences to determine if financial incentives for teachers, administrators and schools affect the quality of teaching and learning.
The committee held its initial meeting July 25 in Washington, D.C. Its aim is to develop an understanding of the fundamental components that go into making a successful performance pay system.
