Young volunteer making impact on Dyer Observatory and science world

Adam Bowman, a rising sophomore at Montgomery Bell Academy, said he first became interested in the sciences the summer following fifth grade, when he attended Dyer’s Space Summer Camp.

Peabody educator is 10th most cited in literature of higher education studies

John M. Braxton, professor of education, is the 10th most cited individual in higher education research, according to a recent study published in Research in Higher Education. The most cited publications in higher education, in addition to Research in Higher Education, are Review of Higher Education and Journal of Higher Education.

Grant to fund test of new teaching paradigm

The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation has awarded a three-year, $600,000 grant to Vanderbilt University’s Schools of Medicine and Nursing to administer a new type of curriculum that would bring students in different disciplines together to learn to serve patients as a team. The pilot program is called the Vanderbilt University Fellowship in Inter-professional Learning.

Peabody professor part of $10 million mathematics research center

Among the collaborators in the new Center on Improving Mathematics Instruction for Students with Mathematics Difficulties, to be administered by the University of Delaware, is Lynn Fuchs, professor of special education.

New logo to help solidify VUMC’s visual identity

The new logo of Vanderbilt University Medical Center replaces the circular ‘buzzsaw’ icon as well as all other logos, and over time will become the visual standard for use on everything from business cards, letterhead and websites to building signs, billboards and shuttle buses.

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt will retain its familiar logo and its usage guidelines are being updated.

The new look closely follows the University’s comprehensive visual identity system and is being rolled out Medical Center-wide this summer, with the full transition expected to take place over the next 18 months.

“This is a process, not an event,” said Jill Austin, assistant vice chancellor for Strategic Marketing at VUMC. “This is an incredibly large, complex and diverse institution, so there will be an adjustment period that we need to work our way through.”
