Vanderbilt may nominate two candidates for the 2015 Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease. Institutions may have a single additional nomination for each category if they nominate a researcher working in pathogenic helminths, mycology, or reproductive science.
Institutions may have an additional nomination if they nominate a member of an underrepresented minority group (i.e., African American, Hispanic or Native American). This five-year $500,000 award is an opportunity for assistant professor level investigators to utilize multidisciplinary approaches to study human infectious diseases.
The program emphasizes high-risk research that opens up unexplored areas of pathogenesis. Research on under-studied infectious diseases, including pathogenic fungi, protozoan and metazoan diseases, and emerging infections is especially of interest. Work supported will be efforts that have the potential to significantly advance the understanding of how microbes and the human system interact, especially in the context of infection.
Those interested in being considered as Vanderbilt’s nominee must submit the following (in PDF format) to LSO@vanderbilt.edu by 5 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2014:
- Brief (2-page maximum) research plan including summary budget;
- Brief statement of support from department chair/center director;
- A brief CV or NIH biosketch.
Submissions should reference the program name in the subject line of the email.
Once received, all proposals will be forwarded to an internal review committee that will choose the final nominees. The chosen nominees will submit full proposals to the Foundation by the Nov. 3, 2014 deadline.
