Vanderbilt receives regional Emmy nominations

Vanderbilt received five regional Emmy nominations for excellence in television, the industry’s highest honor, when nominations were announced Nov. 18.

Vanderbilt Video in the News and Communications office received four nominations for work appearing on VUCast, Vanderbilt’s online network newscast. The video team received nominations in the following categories:

• Sports Segment: Signing Day (Pat Slattery, Emily Pearce)
• Informational/Instructional Program/Special: Looking for Hope (Amy Wolf, Pat Slattery)
• Informational/Instructional Series: Sick Soldier Mystery (Amy Wolf, Carole Bartoo, Pat Slattery)
• Photographer/Program (Non-News): Signing Day (Pat Slattery)

Vanderbilt Video has received 27 nominations since the unit’s creation in 2007 and has won nine Midsouth Regional Emmy awards.

Peabody College’s research office received one nomination in the following category:

• Public Affairs: Pathways to African American Success (Lyle Jackson)

There also is a Vanderbilt connection to two other nominated works. Sons of Lwala, produced by Stone Castle Pictures, features Vanderbilt School of Medicine alumni Fred and Milton Ochieng’ and depicts their efforts to build a medical clinic in the African village where they were born.

And the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Department of Pediatrics are among the sponsors for the nominated Children’s Health Crisis Report produced by Nashville Public Television.

Winners will be announced March 17 during a televised ceremony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
