Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s award-winning “Promise of Discovery” initiative continues with the creation of additional story lines and the launch of a new series of live online video chats.

The campaign represents the promise offered by advancements in biomedical science as well as the promise held by students, faculty and staff as they strive to further VUMC’s core missions of patient care, education and research.

The initiative includes a variety of related messages about personalizing heart and cancer care on national and local television, radio and print, online, and in social media.

New story lines include:

  • Dr. Mia Levy and her work to help personalize cancer care by tying together – online and in the electronic medical record – the latest information about DNA mutations associated with response to therapy and treatment options including clinical trials.
  • Dr. Emily Kurtz and her motivation to keep healthy patients healthy and the use of new testing in PREDICT (Pharmacogenomic Resource for Enhanced Decisions in Care and Treatment) to guide doctors when selecting statin therapy to lower their patients’ cholesterol.

In November, VUMC will conduct the first in a series of live video chats on Facebook. Called My Health Chat, the series will create the opportunity for the public to engage directly with Vanderbilt researchers and health care providers on a variety of topics.

Dr. Jim Jirjis, chief medical informatics officer for clinics, will host the inaugural My Health Chat on Nov. 9, which will focus on personalized medicine and other advances in heart disease treatment and prevention. He will be joined by Dr. Doug Sawyer, chief of cardiovascular medicine; and Dr. Keith Churchwell, executive director of Vanderbilt Heart.

Register for the video chat and learn how to submit questions.

The overall Promise of Discovery campaign and the series of ads on radio received bronze awards from the Healthcare Marketing Association earlier this year.
