During our Vanderbilt Alumni Association-sponsored  “Cuba Libre” trip in March, we visited an organic farm—they even cultivate their own worms—in the  Alamar district on the outskirts of Havana. Hundreds of thousands of Cubans live there in a huge housing project of prefabricated concrete buildings, and between the buildings are community gardens. Young is married to Dina Norris, BA’77, who also made the Cuba trip. Nearly 30 upcoming trips are  currently scheduled by the Alumni Association in locales ranging from Iberia to Antarctica, and none of them requires sleeping in a wheelbarrow.
