POWER HITTER The Miami Marlins selected junior right fielder JJ Bleday with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft on June 3. In May, Bleday was named both SEC Player of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP after helping lead the Commodores to their first conference regular-season championship since 2013 and first league tournament title since 2007. He set the Vanderbilt record for most home runs in a season, and was among four finalists for the Golden Spikes national player of the year trophy.

BOWLED OVER  In April, bowler Kristin Quah, BE’19, became just the third student-athlete in Vanderbilt history to win the H. Boyd McWhorter Award, which is presented annually by the Southeastern Conference to one female and one male considered to be the league’s top scholar-athletes. A three-time All-America selection, Quah was an integral part of Vanderbilt’s 2018 NCAA Championship and 2019 national runner-up teams.
