Feb. 25, 2019—Faculty can learn more about Trans-Institutional Programs, a major part of the Academic Strategic Plan, during a TIPs fair and reception at the Wond’ry March 21.
Nov. 8, 2018—A $10 million gift from alumna Jennifer R. Frist, BS’93, and husband William R. “Billy” Frist will endow a new center focused on supporting and developing the neurodiverse talents of individuals with autism at Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering.
Mar. 29, 2018—The provost's office is hosting a TIPs fair and reception at 11 a.m. April 20 in the Student Life Center to highlight ongoing trans-institutional projects and encourage faculty to participate.
Feb. 28, 2018—Last fall, TIPs funding allowed the VINSE cleanroom to support laboratories for four courses, covering a broad range of topics spanning traditional semiconductor materials processing to cutting-edge synthesis of two-dimensional materials. Feb. 22, 2018—School choice is often touted as way for students in low-income areas to attend better schools. But what benefits does school choice offer for students in affluent areas with access to high-performing schools? As part of Vanderbilt’s Sterling Ranch TIPs program outside of Denver, two Peabody graduate students investigated these high-choice, high-status environments to find out. Jan. 29, 2018—Assistant Professor of Chemistry Steven Townsend explores the role that human breast milk can play as a source of narrow spectrum antimicrobial agents in this VU BreakThru blog. Townsend brought together members of the Vanderbilt Pre-3 Initiative, a 2015 Trans-Institutional Program, to assist with his research.
Jan. 25, 2018—In this week’s column, Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos talks about Vanderbilt’s investment in residential colleges and how our brand of 24/7 immersive learning will shape students into America’s future leaders. “The Tennessean” also ran an op-ed by the chancellor this week on the university’s commitment to residential colleges.
Jan. 3, 2018—Zeros and ones are the gold and silver of the information age. Data Science Visions, a TIPs initiative, is laying the groundwork to analyze and extract the data available in this emerging field. Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy Andreas Berlind writes of the group’s early efforts, including two fall think tanks on two disparate topics—public schools in Tennessee and Inca settlements in Peru. Dec. 12, 2017—Funded by a 2017 TIPs grant, the Vanderbilt LGBT Policy Lab connects interdisciplinary faculty and students to study the impact of LGBT-related public policies. Nov. 6, 2017—Experts from disciplines including divinity, education, law, medicine and nursing will come together at Vanderbilt Nov. 10 to collaborate strategically on achieving racial justice.
Oct. 28, 2016—The Office of the Provost is issuing a call for proposals for Trans-Institutional Programs and University Courses for the 2017 fiscal year. TIPs awards and University Courses are open to university- and Vanderbilt University Medical Center-employed faculty.
