2026 Staff Pulse Survey: Here’s what we heard

Thank you to the nearly 2,000 staff who participated in Vanderbilt’s April 2026 Staff Pulse Survey. Your feedback provides an important snapshot of the staff experience and helps us better understand what’s working well and where we have opportunities to improve.

The survey received 1,999 responses from 4,196 staff members, representing a 48% participation rate. Overall, staff reported a 76% favorable employee engagement score, reflecting a workforce that is deeply committed to Vanderbilt’s mission.

Areas of Strength

  • Pride in working at Vanderbilt
  • Trust in direct supervisors
  • Strong communication within immediate teams

Opportunities for Improvement

  • University-wide communication
  • Understanding how individual work connects to Vanderbilt’s strategic direction
  • Career growth opportunities

As a pulse survey, these results provide a point-in-time view of the staff experience and will help inform university priorities and engagement efforts. Beginning this year, People, Culture and Belonging will conduct quarterly pulse surveys to track progress on key topics, along with a comprehensive annual staff engagement survey that provides a deeper look at the employee experience.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback. Your voice helps shape how we listen, learn and strengthen the staff experience across Vanderbilt.
