Vanderbilt faculty have a new way to deepen their research, scholarship and creative work: a residency at the university’s campus in the heart of New York City.
The Vanderbilt NYC Scholars in Residence Program, established by the Office of the Provost, gives faculty members a furnished apartment, dedicated office space to advance work that engages New York City’s world-renowned academic, cultural, business and nonprofit communities. Applications are open. “The Vanderbilt NYC Scholars in Residence Program reflects our commitment to creating exceptional opportunities for faculty,” Provost C. Cybele Raver said. “By providing dedicated time and a home base in New York City, we are enabling our scholars to engage with the city’s extraordinary intellectual, cultural and professional communities in ways that will enrich their work and strengthen Vanderbilt’s impact. Their presence at our New York City campus will also create meaningful opportunities for our students to learn directly from leading scholars and artists while experiencing one of the world’s great centers of innovation and discovery.”

About the Program
Selected faculty can spend between 31 days and one academic semester in residence at Vanderbilt University–New York City advancing projects that draw on the city’s archives, institutions, collaborators, research centers, industries and creative networks.
Program support includes:
- A furnished apartment for up to one semester (one- to three-bedroom units available based on need and availability)
- Office space at Vanderbilt University–New York City
- Reserved access to seminar rooms and classroom space
- Opportunities to engage Vanderbilt students through formal and informal discussions about their research, scholarship or creative practice
- A public-facing lecture, panel discussion, exhibition or similar event to showcase their work during the residency
Resident Scholars are also encouraged to strengthen Vanderbilt’s relationships with New York City institutions and organizations through collaborations developed during their residency.
Eligibility
The program is open to all full-time Vanderbilt faculty in any academic school or college, but faculty must confirm their eligibility with their dean before applying.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Faculty interested in advancing their research, scholarship or creative work through meaningful engagement with New York City’s research, cultural, business and creative communities are encouraged to apply. - Aug. 25, 2026, for fall 2026 residencies
- Oct. 1, 2026, for spring 2027 residencies
