Beginning with the fall 2027 semester, New Content Experience will be the default content design in Brightspace. New Content Experience is a more modern, intuitive design for the Content area of Brightspace courses. Since the Content page is the most used tool by faculty and students, the update brings improvements and better usability to Brightspace courses. New Content Experience provides better support for mobile devices for students and an improved instructor workflow for adding materials to courses.
New Content Experience can be enabled by instructors and other course builders on a course-by-course basis. It is important to note that no content is lost when switching between Classic and New Content Experience. The only change is how that content is displayed. Instructors and other course builders will have the option of switching to New Content Experience in courses throughout the 2026–27 academic year. The first time one of these users visits the Content page in a course, a notification will give these users the option to enable New Content Experience for that course.
During this transition period—and once the default Content view has been changed—instructors and other course builders still control what Content view they have in their courses. These users can decline to switch to New Content Experience for the 2026–27 academic year, and starting with the fall 2027 semester, they can change back to Classic Content view as needed on a course-by-course basis. Course builders can get more information on how to make the change from one Content view to another in this guide.
The Brightspace New Content Experience is an improvement that will continue to be enhanced and have long-term support for years to come. For more information about this update, refer to the New Content Experience Transition Hub for timelines, examples and answers to frequently asked questions.
