Parking and Commuter Services announces new Open Enrollment process for 2026–27

Vanderbilt is introducing a new approach to parking and commuting designed to make getting to and around campus more predictable, flexible, and easier to navigate.

Beginning with the 2026–27 academic year, parking, transportation and mobility services will be unified under a new department—Vanderbilt Parking and Commuter Services—and a new structured parking process will be introduced for faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars.

What’s changing

Key updates include:

  • For annual parking permits:
    • A new preference-based parking zone system will allow employees with annual permits to select and rank their preferred parking locations. Employees will then be assigned a parking zone for the year, providing a more predictable day-to-day parking experience. (View Map.)
    • Parking Open Enrollment process will allow all faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars to register for annual parking permits.
  • VandyRide shuttles will now be available to all members of the Vanderbilt community during the day, with frequent service connecting parking areas to offices, classrooms and key destinations—making it easier to get around campus quickly and conveniently.
  • More distributed visitor parking will be available across campus.
  • free parking option at Chestnut Street will be offered, with shuttle and WeGo access.

What’s not changing

  • Parking capacity remains consistent.
  • Annual and daily parking options will continue, offering choice and flexibility.
  • The daily parking application and enrollment process is unchanged. If you already enrolled in daily parking and want to continue with it, you are not required to do anything. However, we recommend you confirm your selection during Parking Open Enrollment.
  • Commuting resources, including WeGo and rideshare, remain available.

Parking Open Enrollment: Action required

All faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars who plan to purchase an annual parking permit must participate in Parking Open EnrollmentJune 1–15, 2026.

This is a new process. Everyone, regardless of current permit status, must participate to be eligible for an annual parking permit.

During the June 1–15 period, participants will:

  • Select their permit type (annual or daily)
  • Select and rank preferred parking zones for annual permits
  • Submit preferences through the parking portal

Annual parking zone assignments will be based on preferences, availability and other factors, including current permit status and years of service.

What to do before June:

  • Save the dates for Parking Open Enrollment (June 1–15).
  • Evaluate your personal parking and commuting needs, including daily parking versus annual parking and the new annual parking zone map.

Parking options and choice

Parking options remain flexible to meet a variety of needs:

  • Faculty, staff, and postdoctoral scholars may choose between annual and daily parking.
  • Graduate and professional students may also choose between annual and daily parking.
  • Undergraduate students may register for annual parking only, in designated zones. (View Map.

Parking rates

Parking rates for the 2026–27 academic year are now available online at vu.edu/parkingupdate. Note that annual parking rates remain unchanged from the 2025–26 academic year.

Daily parking remains a flexible option for occasional campus use, while annual permits provide greater predictability and value for those on campus more frequently. Employees who park on campus 15 or more days per month will likely find an annual permit to be the most cost-effective option.

If you are currently enrolled in daily parking and wish to continue with daily parking for 2026–27, we recommend you confirm your selection during Parking Open Enrollment.

Why this change is happening

Over the past several months, leaders from Parking and Commuter Services and the Division of Administration have explored opportunities to evolve and better meet today’s campus needs. This work has been informed by broader community feedback, engagement with campus partners and a review of peer institutions and comparable environments.

These data-driven solutions to moving to and around campus were guided by a few key priorities: creating a more predictable parking experience, maintaining flexibility to support a range of campus needs and making the system easier to navigate for both new and returning community members. Ultimately, the goal is to better align movement to and across campus with use, while improving access and reducing congestion in high-demand areas.
