Update on undergraduate academic calendar following weather disruptions

Recent severe weather has disrupted undergraduate classes, and the university is working to ensure academic continuity while minimizing further disruption to the semester.

“I know that many members of our community have been placed under great strain the past week as we have navigated widespread power outages, property damage and sustained cold temperatures during this ice storm. I am grateful for the resilience, patience and mutual care that continue to define our campus community in difficult moments,” said Provost C. Cybele Raver.

After careful evaluation of multiple alternative approaches in collaboration with undergraduate deans, the undergraduate academic calendar has been updated by adding two class days on April 21 and April 22 while retaining a semester end-date of April 30. Leaders considered options such as shortening spring break, extending the semester by as much as a week, and adding weekend classes. This approach helps to to recover essential instructional time that is also required for accreditation purposes while avoiding the significant academic, operational and personal impacts associated with extending the semester by a full additional week.

Classes will now conclude on Wednesday, April 22 (instead of Monday, April 20). This provides one additional make-up class for M-W-F/M-W courses and one additional make-up class for T-Th courses.

Final exams will begin on Thursday, April 23.

Final exams originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, will be shifted to Saturday, April 25.

Reading day will remain as scheduled on Sunday, April 26.

Final exams will conclude as scheduled on April 30.

Faculty will work directly with their deans to address special circumstances, and they will ensure that information is shared directly with students.
