Community takes courage: Vanderbilt launches hazing prevention campaign

Community Takes Courage: Hazing Has No Place Here. Vanderbilt University has launched the Community Takes Courage campaign to reinforce its commitment to eradicate hazing and foster a culture of respect, courage, belonging and accountability. The initiative follows the Stop Campus Hazing Act, a federal law requiring comprehensive hazing prevention measures in higher education.

A Unified Stand Against Hazing

The campaign empowers students, staff and faculty to take a proactive stance against hazing. The inception and launch were led by Student Affairs offices (Student Accountability, Community Standards and Academic Integrity; Greek Life; Project Safe; Student Organizations, Leadership and Service; and Student Care Network), Athletics, the Recreation and Wellness Center, and VU Public Safety. Together, these offices provide educational resources, reporting tools and ways to engage the campus community in preventing hazing via the Hazing Prevention website.

Vanderbilt has also launched a Hazing Transparency page to promote accountability and transparency by offering visibility into ongoing investigations and organizations found responsible for hazing.

National Hazing Prevention Week

Vanderbilt will observe National Hazing Prevention Week, Sept. 22–26, 2025, to raise awareness, educate, and encourage action against hazing. A series of events for students and staff/faculty will foster discussion, learning and community engagement.

How to Get Involved
