Expect increased police presence May 12–16 for emergency preparedness and readiness activities

During the week of May 12–16, Vanderbilt University Public Safety will be rotating personnel through a series of functional preparedness and readiness activities across campus. Additionally, video crews will be recording educational materials to better prepare the VU community for campus active assailant response procedures. An increased police presence is expected.

“Conducting these drills on campus offers our officers a realistic setting to evaluate and perform rapid entry and response protocols within high-occupancy academic environments,” said Tommye Sutton, deputy chief for Vanderbilt University Police Department.

VUPS consistently reviews internal policies and procedures, as well as techniques and equipment, to enhance its ability to respond to an active assailant threat on campus. Sutton added: “Comprehensive preparedness is essential to an effective response. These initiatives reinforce our commitment to readiness by equipping our community with the skills and coordination necessary to manage high-risk situations with precision and professionalism.”
