In November 2024, Vanderbilt IT applied retention policies for Microsoft Teams and Exchange/Outlook deleted items. As announced, alongside those changes, VUIT will apply an email retention policy this spring that automatically purges emails older than seven years from Microsoft Exchange/Outlook.
Key Details
- Beginning April 14, 2025, this policy will be applied to all staff, graduate students, affiliates and shared mailboxes.
- Emails older than seven years will be purged from all folders, including online archives.
- This policy will not affect emails saved outside of Exchange/Outlook.
- Faculty mailboxes will not be subject to this policy change.
