The Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center at Vanderbilt will celebrate its next milestone when it breaks ground at its permanent location, the corner of 18th Avenue South and Edgehill Avenue, in January 2025.
In September 2023, Vanderbilt University announced the establishment of a new academy for primary students with dyslexia and an innovative center focused on outreach and dyslexia research on campus.
Funded by an unprecedented gift from Hal and Marjorie Hollis Roberts, the academy opened the doors of its temporary location for the 2024–25 academic year.
“We are enthusiastic about taking the next step in the evolution of the Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center at Vanderbilt,” said Camilla P. Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development at Peabody College. “The academy is having a positive impact in its temporary location, and we look forward to meeting the educational and service needs of many more families.”
The 66,500-square-foot building will allow the Roberts Academy at Vanderbilt to expand its services to students and their families in Middle Tennessee. It will also open the doors to innovative research spaces for scholars advancing groundbreaking dyslexia research.
The permanent location will blend seamlessly into Vanderbilt’s Peabody campus to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and connectivity. When completed, the building will boast an accessible, welcoming interior and exterior design with elements to achieve a LEED certification.
The permanent home of the Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center will welcome students for the 2026–27 academic year.
