Spring Faculty Assembly on April 11 

Chancellor Daniel Diermeier and the Faculty Senate will celebrate faculty achievements and provide key university updates at the 2024 Spring Faculty Assembly on Thursday, April 11.  

Many of the university’s highest honors will be presented during the in-person gathering, which will be at 4:10 p.m. in the Student Life Center Ballroom. Additionally, faculty who have served Vanderbilt for 25 years will be recognized.

Faculty Senate Chair Andrea Capizzi, associate professor of the practice and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Special Education at Peabody College, will speak about her time as chair and join Diermeier in presenting spring awards:  

  • The Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award 
  • The Excellence in Immersion Mentoring Award 
  • Innovation in Teaching: Generative AI Award 
  • Innovation in Teaching: Instruction and Course Design Award 
  • Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching 
  • Ellen Gregg Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching 
  • Harvie Branscomb Distinguished Professor Award 
  • Alexander Heard Distinguished Service Professor Award 
  • Joe B. Wyatt Distinguished University Professor Award 
  • Joseph A. Johnson, Jr., Distinguished Leadership Professor Award 

The assembly will conclude with an outdoor reception in the Student Life Center courtyard. Since April 11 is also Vanderbilt University Giving Day, faculty will be invited to enjoy a special cocktail or mocktail to celebrate philanthropy.  

This year’s Spring Faculty Assembly will not be livestreamed, but it will be recorded for viewing later on YouTube.
