Faculty are invited to serve as faculty marshals for the 2024 undergraduate Commencement ceremony on May 10.
Faculty marshals are central to Commencement, creating a dignified and beautiful celebration of Vanderbilt graduates and their academic achievement.
Marshals serve as conductors of movement during Commencement and provide essential assistance in guiding students, other faculty, alumni and guests of honor to their designated places for the ceremony. Faculty marshals from any of VU’s 10 colleges and schools are invited to serve at the undergraduate Commencement ceremony.
The deadline for faculty marshal signup is Friday, April 12; please use this form.
This year, the undergraduate Commencement ceremony will be on Friday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Geodis Park.
To prepare, marshals will participate in a training session, available either in person on Tuesday, April 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Featheringill Hall Room 136 or virtually on Wednesday, May 1, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, marshals will participate in a rehearsal at Geodis Park, tentatively planned for Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m.
Each faculty member participating in Commencement will wear appropriate regalia, representative of the institution from which they earned their highest degree. Faculty needing regalia may rent it free of charge by placing their order online by March 26.
If you have questions about being a faculty marshal, please email University Marshal Cynthia B. Paschal.
