This is a joint competition for VU and VUMC investigators. All investigators should follow these instructions.
Vanderbilt (VU and VUMC, collaboratively) may submit up to two applications for the Agilent Early Career Professor Award. The goal of the Agilent Early Career Professor Award is to promote and encourage research excellence on topics of importance to Agilent and the world, establish strong and collaborative relationships with emerging academic leaders early in their careers, and build the prominence of Agilent as a sponsor of university research.
For the 2024 Early Career Professor Award, Agilent is interested in receiving applications that align with this year’s focus topic: Contributions to environmental sustainability through development of green analytical technologies, methods or laboratory working environments.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must hold a tenure-track faculty position.
- Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. or M.D. residency within 12 years of the award year (additional extensions may apply, please see FAQ).
Selection criteria
- Significant original research contributions enabling solutions of importance to Agilent and the world
(ref: sustainable lab solutions; my green lab) - Innovation and outstanding potential for future research contributions
Award information
- An unrestricted research award of $120,000 to be distributed in two years to the university in the professor’s name.
- Option to use all or part of the award to obtain Agilent products at 50 percent discount.
- Option to accelerate payments for equipment with a list price greater than $120,000.
- Winner will receive an engraved plaque commemorating the award, presented in a suitable ceremony.
- Winner is invited to make a presentation at an Agilent site (at Agilent’s expense).
- Winner’s name, photo and research highlights will be featured on the AECPA website.

Internal application process
Anyone interested in being considered as Vanderbilt’s potential nominee must submit the following (in PDF format) to LSO@vanderbilt.edu by 5 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2024.
- Brief research summary (2-page max. including budget)
The summary must include three sections:- Section 1: Areas of expertise
- Section2: Contributions related to focus topic
- Section 3: Relevance to Agilent and the world
- Letter of support from department chair/center director
- Letter must acknowledge that this grant does not allow indirect costs.** This statement can be used/modified: “The department recognizes that this grant does not allow indirect costs and will commit to covering any associated indirect costs per applicable institutional/school policy.”
- Curriculum vitae (limit to 3 pages)
- Education and academic background
- Key experiences, publications, presentations and patents
- Technical and professional recognition, awards, honors and affiliations
