For the men and women of Vanderbilt’s golf teams, fall break began with a plane ride to Scotland. But instead of just being tourists, the student-athletes prepared to participate in the inaugural St. Andrews Links Collegiate, presented by TopGolf and World Wide Technology, at historic St. Andrews, Scotland, today through Wednesday.
Throughout the tournament, Vanderbilt’s teams will tee off against men’s and women’s golf teams from Georgetown University, the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill and the University of Notre Dame. Today and tomorrow feature two 18-hole rounds of stroke play on St. Andrews’ Jubilee Course, and Wednesday’s medal match is scheduled for the iconic Old Course. The top two teams from stroke play will play an 18-hole round of match play for the championship, while the bottom two teams will play in a consolation match. Each team will have six golfers participating, with the five best scores from each round counting toward the overall team score.
Vanderbilt Lineup
The Commodore men’s lineup includes Cole Sherwood, Matthew Riedel, William Moll, Jackson Van Paris, Wells Williams and Ben Loomis. The Commodore women’s lineup this week includes Ava Merrill, Tillie Claggett, Lynn Lim, Virginie Ding, Sara Im and Charlene Chung.
“I’m excited to see this group compete at the home of golf, in what looks to be a challenging forecast,” men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “Gordon [Sargent] will not be playing with us this week, due to him playing at the World Amateur Team Championship, so it will be exciting to see who steps up in his absence. I’m excited about the lineup we have this week. We take a lot of pride in finishing strong, and I know it’s important to finish this fall season strong so we can carry momentum into the offseason.”
