Vanderbilt timeline launched as part of Sesquicentennial celebration

A new timeline highlighting key milestones in Vanderbilt University’s 150-year history has been added to the Sesquicentennial website.

The timeline is a visual representation of the people, places and events that make up Vanderbilt’s rich history, complements the existing stories on the V150 website, and celebrates how the university has dared to grow throughout its first century and a half.

View the Vanderbilt timeline.

Milestones include the university awarding its first diplomas in 1875; the installation of the iconic Cornelius Vanderbilt statue near Kirkland Hall in 1897; the appointment of Vanderbilt’s first dean of women in 1925; the dedication of Memorial Gymnasium in 1952; previous celebrations marking the university’s 50th and 100th anniversaries; and much more.

Vanderbilt community members are encouraged to suggest additional notable milestones to be included on the timeline. Submit your suggestions using this form.
