In the Four With ‘Dore series, we’re getting to know Vanderbilt students four questions at a time. In today’s edition, meet #VU2024’s Sophia Podolsky, a New York City native double majoring in psychology and cinema and media arts. Sophia currently serves as president of VUcept, Vanderbilt’s peer mentor organization for first-year students.
Q: What is your favorite campus tradition?
A: Move-In Day! Since I wasn’t able to have a traditional Move-In Day my first year due to the pandemic, it has been really special for me to experience as a VUceptor.
Q: What made you want to be an orientation leader?
A: I wanted to help give first-year students the best orientation experience possible. Even though I wasn’t able to have that hallmark first-year experience, I’m happy to be able to provide that to other people.
Q: How have you carved your own path at Vanderbilt?
A: I’ve been able to work with so many different methods and modalities by taking advantage of all the opportunities here, and I don’t think I would really be able to do that anywhere else. It’s been very special to carve my own path at the intersection of psychology and media studies.
Q: What do you want to do after graduation?
A: I want to be a researcher and a mentor for students. In a perfect world, I want to come back to Vanderbilt and be a faculty VUceptor! Being able to think for a living is my absolute dream.
