Dear Students,
Welcome back! I am excited to have you all returning to campus to begin a new academic year after what I hope was a safe and restful summer break. As we approach our first day of classes, I hope you are taking time to set intentions for this year, and as you do, I challenge you to consider the following:
- Embrace being back on campus. Make plans to attend VPB Palooza and other exciting student events to celebrate the start of the year, reconnect with friends, and welcome our new students.
- Join a student organization that aligns with your passions and interests and challenges you. Visit the Student Involvement Fair on August 25 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Recreation and Wellness Center, where you can connect with over 300 student organizations.
- Find communities on campus that foster your sense of belonging. Explore our Identity Centers at their upcoming open houses and look for more information about Diverse ‘Dores Day in the coming weeks.
- Introduce yourself to new ideas and new people. Explore the Anchor Link and University events calendars throughout the year to find events that expose you to new ideas and connect you with our diverse campus community.
- Engage in the Nashville community. Mark your calendar to attend the Service Fair on September 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Alumni Lawn to learn more about service organizations on campus and volunteer opportunities across the Nashville area.
- Prioritize self-care and your wellbeing. The Student Care Network provides a holistic network of health and wellness resources for you. The Wellbeing Fair will be held on October 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Alumni Lawn and is the perfect opportunity to explore these resources with de-stress activities, snacks, and swag.
As Dean of Students, I am honored to serve in a position where I can both challenge you and champion you, and help you navigate the Vanderbilt experience. If you have questions or need help connecting with a campus resource, please contact me at deanofstudents@vanderbilt.edu.
