Everything you need to know about move-in 2023

Move-In is an exciting time for all students and preparations are underway to welcome them back for the new academic year. Please find the 2023 schedule and details below to help ensure a successful move-in. 

INCOMING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MOVE-IN – Wednesday, Aug. 16

Incoming international student move-in is scheduled for Aug. 16. 

  • International students moving in on Aug. 16 should participate in International Student Orientation.  
  • Students have been provided with specific move-in information with their room assignment information from housing@vanderbilt.edu.  
  • International student move-in times will range from 8 a.m. until midnight at The Ingram Commons Center. 
  • Students should activate their mobile Commodore Card before they arrive on campus. Instructions are on the Card Services website. 

INCOMING TRANSFER STUDENT MOVE-IN – Friday, Aug. 18  

Transfer student move-in is scheduled for Aug. 18.  

  • Students have been provided with their room assignment and move-in information from housing@vanderbilt.edu.  
  • Move-in times will range from 1 p.m. through 4:30 p.m.  
  • Students should activate their mobile Commodore Card before they arrive on campus. Instructions are on the Card Services website. 
  • Key pickup instructions: 
    • When arriving to campus on Friday afternoon, please park in lot 18 behind Olin Hall, on the corner of Highland and 24th Avenue. (2400 Highland Ave, Nashville, TN 37240). Key pickup will be under the awning of the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Arts Center, across the street from lot 18 (1204 25th Ave S., Nashville, TN 37240). If you arrive after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, your key will be at your area desk listed here.

First year students move-in to the Martha Rivers Ingram Commons with the help of faculty, staff, and VUceptors (Vanderbilt University)

FIRST-YEAR STUDENT MOVE-IN Saturday, Aug. 19 

  • First-year students have received an email with a specific move-in time between 7 a.m. and noon. 
  • Students should bring their house hangtag and key release card that were mailed to domestic students in early August. If students do not have their hangtag and key release card, staff will provide them in the staging areas upon arrival.   
  • Hangtags should be displayed beneath rearview mirrors with the house abbreviation facing out. This will enable officers to direct vehicles to the proper staging areas. Staff members will lead vehicles from the staging areas to unloading areas near the houses. 
  • At the houses, student Move-In Crew members in brightly colored shirts will greet and assist students in moving their belongings to their rooms. The driver should stay with the car at all times. 
  • Students should activate their mobile Commodore Card before they arrive on campus. Instructions are on the Card Services website.

CONTINUING UPPER-DIVISION STUDENTS Sunday, Aug. 20 

Upper-division residence halls and Greek houses open on Aug. 20. 

  • All unloading zones have a 30-minute limit. Students must move their vehicles to designated student parking immediately after unloading. Students are encouraged to review the campus maps on the Housing website for traffic patterns and unloading areas. Carts are available for moving assistance and should be returned immediately after use.  
  • Residence Hall Residents: Upon arrival to campus, please report to your designated area front desk to check in and pick up your room key. All students are required to pick up their room key. Area desks are listed on the Housing website. 
  • Greek House Residents: To obtain your room code, please contact Greek Life upon arrival with your room number at 615-322-2048. Students arriving after close of business should contact Kristin Torrey, director of Greek Life, before arriving to make arrangements. 
  • Students should activate their mobile Commodore before arriving on campus. Instructions are on the Card Services website.. 
  • If you plan to arrive to campus after Wednesday, Aug. 23, please email Housing and provide your anticipated arrival date. 

PRE-APPROVED EARLY ARRIVALS  

Students who need to move in before Aug. 21 must be approved by Housing and Residential Experience in advance.
