Dangerous heat is in store for all of Middle Tennessee through this weekend as heat index values soar. Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 116 are expected.
Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. The Vanderbilt community is urged to practice heat safety. During an Excessive Heat Warning, consider cancelling outdoor operations or plan for any work to be performed in the morning hours. If you or your staff must be outside, stay hydrated, use work/rest schedules, take breaks in cool areas and be aware of heat-related illness symptoms. For more information regarding heat related illness and protective measures, go to www.osha.gov/heat.
