Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Vanderbilt Athletics host student mural design competition

Art murals transform city spaces into living museums that showcase the history and vibrancy of our community. Vanderbilt’s Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Vanderbilt Athletics are hosting a mural design competition that is open to all Vanderbilt students.

The contests’ themes are the history of North Nashville, Black Nashville heroes and the local civil rights movement. Students are encouraged to think creatively in the ways they visually depict Nashville’s Black history and are invited to submit personal art pieces with an accompanying descriptive paragraph to Madison.s.brinnon@vanderbilt.edu or Donovan.a.sheffield@vanderbilt.edu. The selected mural will be painted onto a newly refurbished public basketball court in North Nashville, and the winning student will receive a $500 cash prize from the Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 21.

For all rules and regulations please visit the 2023 Mural Competition site.
