Sometimes the unexpected can happen at work, such as a fall while climbing the stairs, a back strain from lifting a box or a cut from handling a sharp object. If you incur a work-related injury or illness, remember to follow these easy steps:
- Immediately notify your supervisor
- Seek medical attention at one of the following facilities:
- VUMC Occupational Health Clinic, Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- For injuries that occur after hours, go to the VUMC Emergency Department
- If working offsite, go to the nearest medical provider walk-in clinic (VUMC Walk-In Clinic preferred)
- For serious injuries, call 9-1-1
- Report the injury using the Origami Incident Reporting System
- Your supervisor should also report your injury
All employees are encouraged to report any work-related injury or illness, no matter how slight the injury may be. Prompt reporting helps obtain medical care you may need to prevent further injury, to avoid delays in workers’ compensation benefits and to prevent further occurrences from any remaining hazards in the workplace.
