‘In Conversation with the Chancellor’ event will discuss sustainability May 3

Three faculty-focused events this spring will offer faculty the opportunity to engage directly with members of the administration, including one in-person celebration and two online “In Conversation with the Chancellor” events.  

“The university as a place of open forum requires opportunities for conversation about issues of importance to faculty and to administration,” Chancellor Daniel Diermeier said. “Many people have worked very hard to bring progress to issues related to sustainability and the administrative tasks related to research and discovery. These conversations will explore where we go from here, and I invite all faculty to be part of those discussions.” 

Faculty are invited to participate in the following events: 

In Conversation with the Chancellor – Sustainability 
May 3, 4:10–5 p.m. 

Learn more about the university’s new and continued efforts surrounding sustainability. 

The live webinar will include a moderated question and answer session. Registrants can submit questions in advance when registering or live during the town hall.  

Speakers and Q&A panelists include: 

  • Daniel Diermeier, chancellor  
  • C. Cybele Raver, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs 
  • Eric Kopstain, vice chancellor for administration 
  • Rebecca Swan, Faculty Senate chair, professor of pediatrics and assistant dean for graduate medical education

In Conversation with the Chancellor – Update on faculty-led administrative improvements

Learn about progress in implementing improvements recommended by the Faculty Senate’s Task Force on Administerial Effectiveness, the processes for continual improvement that have been established and the steps faculty and administration are taking to effectively facilitate and advance faculty research and scholarship.

  • Brett Sweet, vice chancellor for finance and information technology

The following event was held on Monday, April 10:

Spring Faculty Assembly
April 10, 4–5 p.m., with a reception to follow
Student Life Center ballroom 

Chancellor Diermeier and the Faculty Senate will celebrate faculty achievements, including many of the university’s highest honors. Awards being presented include: 

  • The Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award 
  • The Excellence in Immersion Mentoring Award 
  • Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching 
  • Ellen Gregg Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching 
  • Harvie Branscomb Distinguished Professor Award 
  • Alexander Heard Distinguished Service Professor Award 
  • Joe B. Wyatt Distinguished University Professor Award 
  • Joseph A. Johnson, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Professor Award 

The assembly will conclude with an outdoor reception in the Student Life Center courtyard. Parking will be available in the 25th Avenue Garage. While the assembly will not be livestreamed, a recording will be made available for on-demand viewing.
