Information sessions for Keegan Traveling Fellowship set for Nov. 29 and Dec. 5

Keegan Traveling Fellows in Tanzania.

The application period for the Michael B. Keegan Traveling Fellowship opens on Monday, Dec. 5. The Office of Undergraduate Education will host two information sessions for all who are interested in applying at the following times:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. – Kissam Center Multipurpose Room
  • Monday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. – Zoom (meeting link available on AnchorLink)

The fellowship is open to graduating seniors (December 2022 and May 2023). All undergraduate students are welcome to attend the information sessions to learn more about this opportunity, whether they plan to apply this year or in the future. The information sessions will feature past Keegan Fellows, who will describe their experiences and career paths, as well as answer questions about the fellowship and the application process.

The prestigious Keegan Traveling Fellowship has enhanced the development of future leaders through world travel and experiential learning since 1963. The concept of the fellowship is simple: give a Vanderbilt graduating senior the opportunity of a lifetime with an award of $25,000 to travel the world for a year, engaging in deep learning on a topic of their choosing. This immersive experience is designed to build upon each fellow’s undergraduate education and offer a pathway to global education, citizenship and leadership. Fellows build communities abroad as well as with other Keegan Fellows, past and present, and go on to distinguished careers spanning various fields.

“Though I’ve been told that the lessons from this year may take a lifetime to fully unravel, a few things have become clearer: The world is a very big place, people are astounding, and I am endlessly grateful to have been given this awe-inspiring opportunity,” said Matt Zhang, a 2020–21 Keegan Traveling Fellow.

Each applicant must complete the application form on InfoReady (including academic, professional and other biographical information, multiple short answers, and a 500-word essay that demonstrates leadership ability) and upload the following documents:

  1. CV/Curriculum Vitae
  2. Research proposal
  3. Two letters of recommendation
  4. Transcript

Applications are due by Jan. 27, 2023, and selections will be made in March 2023.
