Stuff You Should Know, a recurring meeting series for staff who wish to learn about the various aspects of Vanderbilt’s administrative enterprise, will kick off the new academic year with “How to Plan an Event on Campus” on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 2 to 3 p.m. CT. The meeting will be conducted via Zoom. To receive an invitation to the meeting, register here.
The SYSK series aims to provide a collaborative understanding across campus units of the processes and practices that relate to finance and other administrative tasks at Vanderbilt to maximize efficient operations and create a shared network of knowledge.
SYSK is led by a team of four individuals from various departments across campus:
- Austin Fann, administrative manager, Office of the Provost
- Salman Farabi, finance manager, Owen Graduate School of Management
- Emma Pacilli, administrative officer, Shared Resource Cores, School of Medicine
- Alex Shea, director of business operations, Division of Government and Community Relations
SYSK organizes topics and presentations approximately every other month and is currently creating a curriculum for FY23. Past sessions have included topics such as the university’s endowment; real estate holdings, strategic goals and management; reading the balance sheet; tax reform and compliance; current technology and what’s next; admissions and financial aid; development and alumni relations; and uniform guidance of federal grant laws.
If you have recommendations or ideas for future topics, please complete this form.
Future presentation dates and times will be planned for the end of September and October, early December, end of February and April, and early June. If you’d like to receive a calendar invite for upcoming presentations, please submit a request.
The SYSK group is also in the process of building a SharePoint site to house presentation materials and other resources that may be useful to staff.
