Researchers are seeking families with a child age 3-6 diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to study the use of an assistive listening device in the home.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of remote microphone (RM) system use in the home environment on communication practices of families, as well as verbal abilities and auditory behaviors of their young children with autism spectrum disorder. Specifically, this study will examine how RM system use at home affects aspects of caregiver-child communication that could impact the language development and responsiveness of children with ASD.
Participants will be asked to use RM systems and portable language recorders for two consecutive weekends while at home. Participants also will be required to schedule one to two visits to the Vanderbilt Auditory Development Lab. Families will be compensated for their time.
