Now open: Application portals for Seeding Success and Scaling Success internal funding programs, virtual town hall registration

By Jenna Somers

The application portals for the new Scaling Success Grant and the Seeding Success Grant are now open. Faculty may begin applying for these internal funding programs, which both have a deadline of Feb. 2, 2022. Managed by Research Development and Support within the Office of Research, these awards are designed to support faculty research and scholarship in all fields across all provost-reporting schools and colleges.

The new Scaling Success Grant will support faculty as they scale up to increasingly impactful team research, scholarship and creative works, including larger awards from external sponsors. This program will specifically support faculty on projects that already have generated interest and encouragement from a federal, foundation or industry sponsor for the purpose of further developing the project or team prior to formal submission to the sponsor. If needed, RDS can assist faculty in gauging sponsor interest and developing relationships with sponsors.

The continuing Seeding Success Grant supports new work with strong potential for impact or funding from federal, foundation or industry sponsors. It has been updated to offer seed opportunity funding exclusively. While the course buyout track formerly offered by the Seeding Success Grant is no longer available, faculty may propose a course buyout via the separate Scaling Success Grant with support of their dean.

For more information on the application processes for both of these awards, please register to join the virtual town hall Q&A with Vice Provost Padma Raghavan and RDS staff on Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. For links to the application portals and full details about the grants, including eligibility, standards, proposal requirements and funding guidelines, please visit the RDS internal funding webpage.

In addition to the Scaling and Succeeding Success Grants, the Rapid-Advance Microgrant Program (RAMP) continues to accept applications on a rolling basis. For any questions or concerns about these programs, or to learn more about how RDS can assist faculty with external sponsorships, please contact ovprfunding@vanderbilt.edu.
