The Office for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and FirstVU, a student-led organization that aims to support, celebrate and empower first-generation students, invite the Vanderbilt community to participate in First-Generation Celebration Day on Monday, Nov. 8. This year’s celebration will be an in-person gathering from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Student Life Center Board of Trust Room. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be observed.
The Center for First-Generation Student Success initiated this nationwide event to honor the resilience, motivation and accomplishments of first-generation students and graduates at colleges and universities across the country.
All Vanderbilt community members are invited to join the gathering for food and fun. First-generation community members and allies may pick up a T-shirt in Sarratt 114 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, and Friday, Nov. 5. First-generation students and graduates, along with those who support the first-generation community, are encouraged to wear their shirts around campus and to the gathering on Nov. 8.
