The Office of Faculty Affairs is launching a faculty development series dedicated to providing meaningful resources to new faculty throughout their first academic year and continuing support as they settle into their Vanderbilt careers.
In August 2021 the Office of Faculty Affairs welcomed more than 100 new faculty at New Faculty Orientation. The daylong event included several panels featuring academic leaders and university administrators who discussed available resources and shared pivotal moments and their perspectives to help guide the new hires on their Vanderbilt paths.
The faculty development series for new faculty will provide curated resources and experiences that support the faculty experience. The series strives to create a space for new faculty to come together, engage in deeper conversations on specific topics relevant to the first-year experience, and build relationships with other new faculty across academic disciplines and the various schools and colleges at Vanderbilt. Faculty who started their Vanderbilt careers in August 2020 also are invited to participate in the new series.
In addition, new faculty are invited to Conversations with the Provost, an opportunity to join Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs C. Cybele Raver in conversation during the spring 2022 semester. These hourlong conversations are intended to create an intimate space for new faculty to hear directly from Raver; share their stories, including the journeys that brought them to Vanderbilt; and engage their peers across the university. Details, including registration, dates and other pertinent information, will be emailed to new faculty later this semester.
