Free flu shots and COVID booster shots available for Vanderbilt community

Vanderbilt is now offering free flu shots and free Pfizer COVID booster vaccines for eligible members of the Vanderbilt community. Due to physical distancing needs, FLUlapalooza will not be held this year—FLUla-2-Uza will take its place as an option for those wanting to receive their flu vaccination this year.

FLU VACCINES

The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone six months old and older get a flu vaccine. Vanderbilt has created multiple ways for eligible students, faculty and staff to receive a free flu vaccine now and throughout flu season.

Vanderbilt offices can sign up for the “OHC Comes to You” program to request a departmental onsite flu vaccine event. Submit a departmental event request at OHC Comes to You.

For more information about employee flu vaccination options, visit the FLUla-2-Uza website.

For more information about student flu vaccination options, visit the SHC website.

COVID-19 BOOSTER VACCINES

Eligible members of the Vanderbilt community who have already received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine series can get a booster shot at Boosta-Palooza Oct. 5–8 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center main campus. Look for a tent between Light Hall and the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Eligible individuals must have an appointment and will receive an email from Occupational Health with a link to schedule a morning or afternoon session on one of the designated dates. Due to physical distancing needs, this is not a walk-up event.

Based on CDC recommendations, Vanderbilt staff, faculty and students in the following demographic groups, who meet the clinical eligibility criteria below, are invited to receive a COVID-19 booster at Boosta-Palooza:

  • Faculty, staff and students ages 65 and older
  • Nursing students, medical students and nursing/medical faculty and staff
  • Faculty and staff involved in child care at The Acorn School or Susan Gray School
  • First responders such as VUPS

Recipients of the booster will need to meet the following clinical criteria to receive the booster at Boosta-Palooza:

  • Completed the Pfizer COVID vaccine series (dose one and dose two) at least six months ago.
  • Tolerated the primary vaccine series without significant adverse or allergic reaction immediately after vaccination.

Eligible individuals who are VUMC patients with high-risk conditions who are not able to attend Boosta-palooza and/or meet additional eligibility criteria not covered by Boosta-palooza, can schedule their Pfizer booster shot at One Hundred Oaks, one of the Vanderbilt clinics, Occupational Health or Student Health. To schedule, use the myHealth at Vanderbilt app or website to schedule a visit at a walk-in clinic. Individuals will not be able to schedule an appointment until they are six months past their initial Pfizer COVID series.

Non-VUMC patients can find vaccine location options on this website.

Those who have received the booster should submit their record to the Public Health Command Center using the same submission form as the first two doses. These records will be maintained and treated as confidential by the command center.
