Apple has released a critical security software update to address a significant vulnerability in its products.
The vulnerability is particularly troublesome as it allows a device to become infected silently—meaning you do not need to click a link or open a document to become infected. The spyware is able to turn on your camera and microphone; record messages, texts, emails and calls; track your location; and steal passwords.
This highly invasive spyware can infect iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and Mac computers. It is imperative that Apple users update their devices as soon as possible in order to apply the fix.
To update your iPhone or iPad to 14.8:
- Go to Settings
- Click General
- Click Software Update
- Click Install Now
To update your Mac computer to MacOS 11.6:
- Using the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, go to System Preferences
- Click Software Update
- Click Update Now
To update your Apple Watch to 7.6.2 using your iPhone:
- Keep your Apple Watch on the charger until the update completes
- On your iPhone, open the Watch app
- Click on the My Watch tab
- Click General
- Click Software Update
- Download the Update
Due to security vulnerabilities such as this, it is important to routinely update all of your devices.
