The call for abstracts for the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center’s 2021 Virtual Science Day is now open through Tuesday, Aug. 31. Science Day promotes “centeredness” across Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, provides an opportunity to present significant research findings in intellectual and developmental disabilities research, and encourages research collaboration.
All 2021 Science Day presenters will become VKC affiliates and are eligible to request VKC travel awards (up to $250) to present at a scientific or professional conference in the next two years (extended a year due to COVID-19). These funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Submit an abstract by clicking here.
This year’s event will take place virtually on Friday, Nov. 5, beginning at 11:30 a.m. CT. To fit with the virtual element of Science Day, all accepted presenters will be asked to create a three- to five-minute pre-recorded presentation of their research as well as a PDF file of the accompanying poster. Poster files and videos will be posted on a dedicated Science Day webpage with plenty of time for participants to view ahead of Nov. 5.
Then, on Nov. 5, presenters will discuss their research in real time during four 30-minute Zoom breakout sessions. Additional highlights include a keynote talk by Brian Boyd, Ph.D., director of the Juniper Gardens Children’s Project and associate professor in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas, and a data blitz session from exemplary student and postdoc presenters.
