In accordance with recent changes to CDC guidelines, Vanderbilt University has updated its visitor policy after consulting with public health experts. Beginning Monday, Aug. 2, visitors coming to campus must wear a mask indoors, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated.
Since the pandemic began, the university has adapted and refined policies and protocols in light of new public health data and changes to government guidelines.
New details concerning the delta variant are released daily. As always, university leaders review new CDC guidance and available evidence and will consult with public health experts to determine the impact on protocols as individuals return to campus.
At this time, there are no protocol changes for Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff who have been vaccinated. The university is requiring that all faculty and staff be fully vaccinated and submit proof of vaccination or request a medical or religious exemption by July 31. The student deadline is Aug. 6. Those with an approved accommodation related to the university’s vaccination requirement must comply with protocols set out in their accommodation approval letter.
Campus academic buildings will continue to be closed to visitors.
Buildings open to visitors include:
- Student Life Center for campus tours
- Residence halls* (for families and guests of on-campus residents only)
Athletics events will be addressed later.
The university supports members of the campus community choosing to wear face masks/coverings, even if they are vaccinated. People who choose to wear masks should not be questioned about them, nor should they be discouraged or prohibited from wearing them.
