Vanderbilt University Police Department has received a report from the Metro Nashville Police Department of a sexual assault of a non-affiliated female victim that occurred on May 20, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m. The victim was entering her vehicle parked near Terrace Place and the Baker Building when approached by the suspect with a pocketknife. The suspect sexually assaulted the victim in her vehicle and then fled the area in a silver four-door sedan toward downtown Nashville.
This is an active and ongoing MNPD investigation.
This security notice is being issued to remind the Vanderbilt community:
- Scan the area before you exit or approach your vehicle or building and while you proceed between sites.
- Have your key ready in hand to quickly access the door of your vehicle/building.
- Stay alert and trust your instincts. If you feel uneasy, leave. Go to a safe location and notify VUPD.
- If a stranger does approach, maintain a distance and be observant; if they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number.

- Report any suspicious persons to VUPD. Be prepared to describe the person as best as you can.
