Flexner Deans’ Lecture: University of Toronto’s Nicole Woods to speak April 19

Dr. Nicole Woods, associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, will discuss “Back to Basics: Cognition, Curriculum and Context in Medical Education” on Monday, April 19, beginning at noon CT.

Her talk is The John E. Chapman, M.D. Lecture in Medical Education for the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Flexner Deans’ Lecture Series.

Woods is director of The Institute for Education Research at University Health Network and an education scientist and associate director of The Wilson Centre at the University of Toronto. She leads an internationally recognized research program in health professions education. Her laboratory-based research uses methods and principles drawn from cognitive psychology to advance theory and practice in health professions education. Woods’ work aims to transform the training of health professionals by developing models of knowledge acquisition and expertise development and translating these models into tools and techniques for education. Her research has significant implications for teaching across the developmental continuum and a variety of health disciplines.
