Chancellor Daniel Diermeier announced today that Vanderbilt University will grant two administrative closure days during the upcoming months in acknowledgment and celebration of employees’ hard work during this challenging academic year.
The two paid administrative closure days will be observed on May 28, 2021, and July 2, 2021—the Fridays preceding the Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays, respectively. The university will observe Independence Day as a holiday on Monday, July 5, since it falls on a weekend this year.
“Our staff members have continued to put the Vanderbilt community first while also showing tremendous resilience throughout this unprecedented time,” Diermeier said. “They are fully deserving of these paid days off, which I hope many will use to recharge, focus on personal well-being or spend time with family and friends.”
As a residential and research institution, Vanderbilt University never completely closes, and May 28, 2021, and July 2, 2021, are days of instruction. Staff who are required to work on these days will receive an alternate day off or pay for the administrative day, at management’s discretion.
