In preparation of an infrastructure and utility project planned for this summer in the historic core of campus near Kirkland Hall, Neely Auditorium and Benson Hall, hydro-drilling—a less invasive process using high-pressure water to dig—will occur at six to seven spot locations (along the route noted in the illustration below) starting on Monday, March 22.
The purpose of this drilling is to verify the depth and size of various buried utility lines. At the conclusion of the process, the ground will be repaired and sod placed over the disturbed soil.
Due to the high-pressure water drilling, buildings and residential colleges in the area may experience higher levels of noise. Intermittent drilling, which is estimated to last about a week, will occur generally between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
Due to the nature of the work, and if weather negatively impacts the ability to conclude this activity within a week, additional construction notices will be shared accordingly.
More information regarding the full utility project, set to take place this summer, will be released at a later date.
