Writing Studio offers weekly workshops this spring

Building on the student support services it offered in the fall, the Writing Studio will launch a series of weekly writing workshops this spring open to all Vanderbilt students.

The Writing Studio has long offered workshops to support specific writing assignments for Vanderbilt courses. The new offerings include topical writing workshops open to all students regardless of course assignment.

The workshops meet virtually on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m. CT.

Workshop topics include core writing skills, like revision and brainstorming, as well as more specialized topics, like writing application essays and managing large writing projects.

“The examples were incredibly helpful, and I appreciate the resources they shared with us,” a recent participant in the Application Essay Essentials workshop said. “It was a great structure and fantastic use of our limited time together.”

“I appreciated learning about ways we can facilitate long-term productive writing,” another participant in the Establishing and Maintaining a Writing Practice workshop noted. “It’s good to think about how we can change our lives or schedules to write more healthily and productively.”

Upcoming workshops include:

  • Establishing a Healthy Writing Practice, March 11
  • Brainstorming, March 18
  • Editing Tools: Practical Approaches to Revising at the Sentence Level, March 29
  • Application Essay Essentials, April 12

The Writing Studio continues to offer a full range of writing support, including 50-minute, one-on-one writing consultations. During these consultations, students have the opportunity to discuss their writing projects with a member of the Writing Studio’s team of peer and professional writing consultants.
