Vanderbilt Prison ProjectThe Vanderbilt Prison Project will observe its annual Awareness Week Oct. 26–29 with a series of virtual events conducted via Zoom. This year’s theme, “The Criminal (In)justice System Today,” will explore policing and the prison system in the context of current events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 election.

Policing the Protest: A panel discussion with members of the People’s Plaza in Nashville on defunding and demilitarizing the police. Learn how you can take action.

Screening of 13th: Screening of the critically acclaimed documentary 13th, followed by a discussion about the prison system and the criminalization of African Americans in the U.S.

COVID in Prisons: A panel discussion with Dr. Jennifer Gaddy and Nashville Public Defender Martesha Johnson on their work to secure release for individuals in Nashville’s jails and prisons in light of COVID-19. Learn how you can take action.
