The Vanderbilt Melodores defeated Duke University’s Out of the Blue in Round 1 of the National Collegiate Performing Arts A Cappella Championships to advance to the “Singing Sixteen” regional finals of the UpStagedAID: One World, Every Student Voice competition.

In Round 2, the Melodores face off against the Belmont University Prismatics.

Voting for Round 2 began Oct. 13 and ends tomorrow, Oct. 20, at 11:59 p.m.

Winning teams will receive over $10,000 in cash prizes and donations to give to the social justice charity of their choice. The Melodores are competing for the nonprofit Tennessee Education Association.

The bracket-style competition kicked off Sept. 21. Winners are determined by a combination of fan voting (rounds 1–3) and celebrity judging (semifinals and finals rounds), headed by a cappella legend Deke Sharonand fellow industry veterans Annette Philip and Christopher Diaz.

Teams who are defeated in bracket rounds move to the All-American Encore Round, where they still have a chance to achieve NCPA College A Cappella All-American status and earn prize money. More information can be found on UpStagedU.com.
