Vanderbilt University Police Department welcomed this fall its newest member, Levi, a miniature pinscher mix, as the university’s second community K-9 officer. Levi serves as patrol partner to Sgt. Cheryl Bradley, a member of VUPD since 2010.
Levi joins Community K-9 Officer Jack, who has been a member of VUPD since October 2018, in interacting with members of the community while on duty.
The team will be a resource to the Vanderbilt community and aid in creating positive encounters with law enforcement across campus. They will provide assistance in outreach efforts as well as emotional care during potentially stressful situations, such as when they respond to a personal crisis.
The campus community also can request that Bradley and Levi make appearances, while following Return to Campus protocols, where additional sensitivity and support may be needed. This semester, both Jack and Levi will focus on drop-in meet-and-greets at libraries, dining tents and other common areas.
